Janne F. Meyer-Zimmermann & Messi van’T Ruytershof Top €95,450 DKB Grand Prix CSI 4* at Bemer Riders Tour in Hagen

There’s another famous Messi in sports and it’s in showjumping! Janne FriederikeMeyer-Zimmermann (GER) and Messi van’t Ruytershof were the winners of the €95,450 Deutschen Kreditbank (DKB)Grand Prix CSI 4*, the main class of the Horses & Dreams CSI 4* & 2*, also counting points as the first leg of the 2022/2023 Bemer Riders Tour championship series.
“I stopped here seven months ago as second in the tour and I wanted to start here again,” smiled Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann (GER), “but I didn’t expect that I’d become faster because of the pregnancy.” But that is exactly what happened. With the ten-year-old Belgian gelding Messi van’t Ruytershof (Plot Blue x For Pleasure), the rider from Pinneberg, Germany, took a second off the mark set by the then leader Oliver Lazarus (RSA) in the first Bemer Riders Tour special stage and won the start of the series at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen a.T.W.. In September 2021 the Riders Tour winner of 2015 said goodbye to Messi at the same place on maternity leave.
Just eleven weeks after the birth of her son Friedrich, Meyer-Zimmermann drew attention to herself on Friday in the final special stage of the 2021 Tour when she was almost able to push Angelique Rüsen (GER) off the podium. Messi van’t Ruytershof has been part of the Meyer-Zimmermann sports stable for five years and it took some time before he felt comfortable on the warm-up arena. “He was a bit of the insider tip in the stable,” says the rider, “he’s an intelligent horse and one for the future.”
Challenging Task
This first stage of seven to follow in the 2022 Bemer Riders Tour season was quite something. Only five couples managed a first round without penalty points in the DKB Grand Prix. A total of 13 couples were allowed to start in the second round, as the last starter Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann (GER) then set the celebrated record.
Oliver Lazarus (RSA) took it with humor. The professional, who has known the Horses & Dreams stage of the tour well since his time in Riesenbeck, was happy to be able to take part again: “However, I only have one good horse and have to see where and how I can continue riding the Bemer Riders Tour .” With the French mare Butterfly Ennemmel (Quaprice Bois Margot), Lazarus shot clean in 46.15 seconds.
Third place was claimed the 2019 Tour runner-up, Mario Stevens (GER) from Molbergen with Starissa (Stakkato Gold x Quidam’s Rubin). The gelding gave his rider a 47.13 second quick and clear round. Like Lazarus, Stevens was one of the lucky ones who, despite a mistake in the first round, made it through to the second round thanks to her good time. Patrick Stühlmeyer (GER) also got the first six points with Carmina in tenth place – the “Rider of the Year” obviously has his sights set on defending the title.
Looking Forward to Seven Tour Events
“A great first leg and great sport,” said Paul Schockemöhle, who gave the idea for the Bemer Riders Tour to the organizers Francois and Ullrich Kasselmann. “Together with Bemer, we have made it our mission to internationalize the tour.” Bernhard Bock (Head of Marketing, Bemer Int. AG) is also looking forward to this reorientation: “That also means more events and more competition – I’m looking forward to it.”
The next tour stop of the Bemer Riders Tour is the Pferd International in Munich from May 26th to 29th. This is followed by the first stage abroad in Ommen in the Netherlands.
